Newport Diagnostic Center
Hazem H. Chehabi, M.D.
Newport Diagnostic Center is a premier state-of-the-art comprehensive
outpatient medical imaging facility which houses a wide range of imaging modalities
in addition to stereotactic body radiation therapy under one roof.
Established in 1991 by Dr. Hazem Chehabi, a distinguished fellow and
diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine (ABNM) and past President
of the American College of Nuclear Physicians (ACNP), NDC has developed into a
world-class renowned facility providing quality service and compassionate care. Dr.
Chehabi’s team of fellowship trained radiologists and qualified licensed technicians
ensure timely service and allow a concierge-like experience for both patients and
referring physicians.
Since its inception, NDC has constantly pushed the envelope to provide the
latest technology to both its patients and ordering physicians alike. As such, NDC
was the first facility in the United States to offer outpatient PET imaging. In 1995,
NDC was the world’s first beta site for the newly invented CyberKnife radiation
therapy system, the first and only non-invasive fully robotic radiotherapy device.
CyberKnife uses an approach called stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT),
delivering precise doses of radiation with extreme accuracy while accounting for
tumor or patient movement in real-time. It is used to treat malignancies throughout
the body and can be an alternative to surgery for patients who have inoperable or
surgically complex tumors. NDC’s clinical research contribution was instrumental
for the FDA approval of the device. Today the CyberKnife System has decades of
clinical proof and has helped thousands of patients throughout the world.
In addition to the long list of services currently provided, NDC is becoming a
regional hub for the newly evolving field of Theranostics. Theranostics is a
groundbreaking two-pronged approach form of precision medicine that combines
imaging and molecular radiotherapy. Radiopharmaceuticals can be specifically
targeted at cancer while leaving most normal tissues unharmed. This combination of
therapeutics and diagnostics (Theranostics) allows nuclear medicine physicians to
diagnose, stage, and treat certain types of cancer. Newport Theranostics Center is
leveraging this state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge research to bring
effective treatments to its cancer patients providing hope and improved quality of
life.
With roots in the Arab world, expanding NDC’s services to touch the lives of
patients in the Middle East has always been a part of the ultimate vision. We are
currently exploring a number of locations which would prove suitable to duplicate
the center’s mission, vision, and impact.
